INSPIROMEDIA was founded by Tom Dean. Tom was introduced to patents and trademarks in 1986-87 while attending Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta Georgia; formally Southern Technical Institute. After an unsuccessful attempt to obtain a patent for a non-clogging powder soap dispenser and a brief job working with another patent illustrator, he set out to startup a drafting firm with the support of one local Atlanta IP firm. For the first 2 years, using technical drawing pens, all the patent drawings were created as line drawings prepared on bristol board. Revisions to pen and ink drawings prepared by hand were a challenge and time consuming. One of the very first illustration software applications for the Windows operating system was Micrografx Designer. Using a scanner, with Micrografx Designer, we became one of the first patent drafting firms to successfully incorporate computer assisted editing into the patent drawing process. Early on in the adoption of computer based illustration for patent drawings, the US PTO was restrictive in allowing the submission of computer drawings because the output quality of CAD software at the time was not up to industry accepted standards for professional technical illustration. CAD software at the time was primarily used as an engineering tool rather than a tool used to produce professional illustration. We eventually went from simply editing scanned “hand drawn” illustrations to preparing complete sets of utility as well as design patent drawings. We submitted allowable formal patent drawings during a time when the USPTO did not typically accept computer generated drawings. In 1995, INSPIROMEDIA.com was created. INSPIROMEDIA was incorporated in 2000 and today successfully serves the illustration needs of innovative companies, IP law firms and individual inventors throughout the U.S. Tom serves as the lead project manager working directly with clients and is responsible for the final work product.
