INSPIROMEDIA was founded by Tom Dean after attending Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta Georgia; formally Southern Technical Institute.
After an abandoned attempt to obtain a utility patent for a clog-free powdered soap dispenser and a one year job mentoring with a professional patent illustrator; Tom committed his illustration experience to the drafting firm startup, INSPIROMEDIA, with the support of one local Atlanta IP firm.
For the first 2 years, all the patent and tm drawings were prepared traditionally using technical drafting pens, prepared on Bristol board. Revisions to pen and ink drawings prepared by hand can be tedious and time consuming.
With the development of high resolution scanners and desktop computers, INSPIROMEDIA became one of the first patent drafting firms to successfully incorporate computer assisted editing into the patent drawing process. Early on in the adoption of computer based illustration for patent drawings, the USPTO was understandably restrictive in allowing the submission of digital drawings because the output quality of CAD/CAM (computer aided design, manufacturing) software at the time was not up to industry accepted standards for professional technical illustration.
CAD/CAM software is used in the design and engineering of products, machinary parts, etc.. Early applications were not well suited for the development of professional illustration. Moreover, the few dedicated computer graphics applications available in 1990 did not offer a mature feature set to artists and illustrators. As software and hardware advanced, INSPIROMEDIA advanced from simply editing scanned “hand drawn” illustrations to preparing complete sets of utility as well as design patent drawings.
INSPIROMEDIA is one of the original pioneers to submit allowable formal patent drawings during a time when the USPTO did not typically accept computer generated drawings or at least those that appeared to be computer derived.
Professional digital tools, lossless digital quality and proprietary illustration techniques make INSPIROMEDIA illustrations superior to illustrations prepared by hand. INSPIROMEDIA clients benefit from 20 plus years of digital arts development coupled with enhanced experience gained from every project we deliver.
In 1995, INSPIROMEDIA.com was launched. INSPIROMEDIA incorporated in 2000 and today we are growing strong, successfully serving the illustration needs of innovative companies, IP law firms and individual inventors throughout the U.S. Tom Dean serves as the lead project manager/illustrator working directly with clients and is responsible for the final work product and deliverables.
Responsibility and great care is accepted with each new client relationship and with each job entrusted to us. INSPIROMEDIA will fully serve the patent drawing needs of our clients regardless of distance. Prospective clients are invited to request quotes for services anytime and we look forward to all opportunities to serve.
For solo first time inventors, we offer advice regarding the process with our first advice to seek the legal counsel of a registered patent attorney or qualified agent. It is imperative for inventors to understand that protecting intellectual property is time consuming (the process can take years), costly and not without risk. It is advisable to hire professionals. At a minimum, be prepared to educate yourself on patent procedures, manufacturing processes, as well marketing, etc. Protecting intellectual property is key but having a patent application issue does not guarantee success.
